Solstice Run - June 21st
Our traditional Solstice run this year was held on the actual date of the Solstice - Sunday June 21st. A magnificent 25 cars and 42 people attended for the run and dinner.
Starting at around 16:00 in the Westhill Car Park, a small battle of wits commenced on arrival! For those that don't know it, the road into the Westhill shopping centre comes in roughly in the middle and with hedges either side of the road you can't easily see who has parked where!
So when you arrive at the T junction, you can turn either left or right into 2 totally sperate parking areas and hence some members turned right and some turned left so we ended up with 2 independent MG gatherings! Each side sent a runner to the other area to try and get them to change sides, but in the end the left side won - primarily due to the fact that this was the side where the organisers - John and Jill Chessor - were located and had the all important route details!
With route details distributed, with the exception of Alan the cars set off on the run. Poor old Alan's MGB suffered an elusive electrical fault which affected many of the electrical systems and rather than risk getting stranded, he wisely headed home to try and fix the problem which turned out to be nothing more than a faulty relay.
The format was a gentle late afternoon run of just over 60 miles (but not over the Cairn o' Mount this year!) with supper at Scott Skinner's in Banchory at 7.00pm. The sun shone brightly throughout the afternoon leading to a very enjoyable event. Scott Skinner's had set aside a private room for supper and the food and service were extremely good.
As had become tradition with John and Jills runs, the route featured a number of clues to be solved along the way with Helen Taylor and David Sinclair emerging victorious at the end!
If you didn't get a chance to enter but would like to try the route, this is attached (with answers to the clues) at the link below.
