27th June 2021 - Moray Miglia
Although this wasn't an MG Owners Club event, a handful of members entered this years Moray Miglia event which took place in bright sunshine on 27th June. This is an annual road run and high tea which is brilliantly organised by the McWhirters who own both the Moray Motor Museum and the Decora shop in Elgin.
The event was limited to 50 entrants this year and attracted a varied selection of cars. We started with morning coffee and a scone at the Museum and in order to avoid bunching, there was a staggered start with participants heading off for the morning run of around 62 miles, ending at the Cairngorm Mountain Centre for a packed lunch. The route to the lunch halt went through Aviemore and past Loch Morlich, both of which were mobbed with crowds of people, especially Loch Morlich where the traffic was totally chaotic with people parked in the most ridiculous places as all the car parks were full!
The afternoon run took us over the Lecht and back to Elgin with a total mileage for the whole run of just over 174 miles. The roads chosen were brilliant and the scenery was stunning and everyone had a great day out - I would thoroughly recommend entering next year if you haven't done it before - believe me, it's well worth it.
Commiserations to Stuart and Elizabeth Scott who suffered a failed bottom hose on their MGB during the afternoon, but Stuart must have been a boy scout as he was well prepared and had a spare hose and the appropriate tools to fix it. I'm delighted to say they made it to the finish!
