November 11th - Quiz Night
Following the sad death of our previous quizmaster Frank Odds last July and the recent tragic death of his wife Ali, we were in two minds whether to continue with our traditional November quiz night which Frank and Ali ran so succesfully for many years. Covid restrictions meant that we couldn’t run it last year, but the Committee decided that we should honour Frank and Ali’s memory and hold a quiz this year.
As we weren't able to find a Quizmaster within the club, we contacted our close friends in the Grampian Region Jaguar Enthusiast Club who we share facilities with to see if they could help, and it transpired that they had an experienced quizmaster in Steve Cromar – the Jaguar Club Chairman.
And so it was that on Thursday 11th November, 32 club members and friends assembled in 8 teams of 4 at Kippie Lodge for the quiz. Divided into 4 rounds of 10 questions per round, the topics covered were Historic Motoring, Future Motoring, General Knowledge and Cars in Films, Music or TV.
At half-time, Kippie laid on a fabulous meal of Stovies or Macaroni Cheese for us, followed by tea and coffee.
Many of the questions were quite tricky and caused much scratching of heads, but at the end of the evening the 'Odds and Sods' team, consisting of Roger Key, Bill Wood, Gordon Brockie and Vester Buchan emerged victorious with 19 points, 'The Stoics' came second with 18 points and the 'Mensa Rejects' came third with 17 points.
Special thanks to Steve for running the quiz and to the staff at Kippie for making the evening so enjoyable.
