Late Summer Road Run - 28th September
What is most likely to be our last road run of the 2025 season was an 84-mile jaunt along the Moray coast in bright sunshine on 28th September. 12 cars / 20 members and partners congregated at the very sociable hour of 10:00 at The Drive at Haddo for a breakfast roll and a coffee before setting off at around 11:00; heading initially NNE towards Fraserburgh before turning left at Memsie and heading along the scenic coastal road to Elgin.
The route took us through many picturesque villages such as New Aberdour, Pennan, Macduff, Portsoy, Cullen, Portknockie (home to Bow Fiddle Rock - see picture below) Findochty, Portessie, Buckie, Portgordon before crossing the Spey at Baxters and heading to Elgin. On arrival In Elgin, we had lunch in Millers Café in Decora and then a few of us headed over the road to visit the Moray Motor Museum.
The run took around 2½ hours and with the relatively clear skies and sunshine everyone who was able to had their roofs down for the run. The only minor casualty was Stuart Scott who suffered an intermittent fault with the fuel pump on his ‘B’ which caused the engine to die on a couple of occasions, however it always started again, and they made it home safely and immediately placed an order for a solid-state fuel pump!
It was unfortunate that many members were unable to do the run due to other commitments but everyone seemed to enjoy the roads and so we may tweak the route a little and resurrect it for the Warmup tun next year. The only issue being that many of us ended up quite a long way from home!
Special thanks to Charlotte McWilliam who navigated her Dad Gordon McGrotty around the route and managed to take a short highlight video – see below. Thanks too to Robert Baldwin who took some of the photos below; I intended to take some as well….but failed!
