46th Scottish Transport Extravaganza - aka Glamis

Held over the weekend of 9th– 10th July 2022, the 46th Scottish Transport Extravaganza basked in glorious sunshine on what was the hottest weekend of the year so far - to quote the Sun newspaper from 1976 - "Phew, what a scorcher!".

After a 3 year break due to the pandemic, the 46th Scottish Transport Extravaganza was held in the magnificent grounds of Glamis Castle. The event is regarded as the premier vintage motoring spectacular in Scotland and is one of the largest of its kind in Britain - this year it attracted record crowds spurred on no doubt by the weather.

Although it ran over the whole weekend, unfortunately the Saturday clashed with the local AW Autotech 'Blast from the Past' and so most of our Club members attended on the Sunday. During a conversation with one of the Organisers, it was revealed that there were around 10,000 visitors on the Sunday alone.

They were treated to over 1800 vehicles representing a wide array of transport comprising veteran, vintage and classic vehicles and machinery (cars, commercials, military, tractors, steam engines, motor cycles, static engines and exhibits)

A significant part of the display was created by the various car clubs who attend the event and through these car clubs, we were treated to many iconic vehicles of all shapes and sizes.  2022 saw a special compound set aside for the 100 years of Austin, as well as over 150 Stands including auto jumble, motor trade, antiques, fundraising stalls and a craft village.

As we have done in the past, rather than have our own Club stand which would in effect compete with the other MGOC stand, our members joined Team Dennis on their magnificent Tayside MGOC stand.  As ever, this was packed with MGs of all types from all eras with some magnificent examples on display. On a sad note however, a magnificent 1958 MGA was vandalised the night before whilst parked in Dundee, although thankfully there wasn't too much damage but it just shows that there are some really nasty people around.  Very sad,

This was a magnificent day out and the adjacent campsite was jam packed, showing that hundreds of people had made a complete weekend of it - we'll definitely be back next year!

Many thanks to Graham for giving me a lift down in his MGB, and thanks again to Lewis for supplying some of the photos below.
