The RW Thomson Memorial Rally was first held in 1967 to honour R.W. Thomson (1822-73), the inventor of the pneumatic tyre in 1845 (UK Patent 10990). It has been organised since 1976 by the Robert William Thomson Memorial Fellowship which was formed to perpetuate his memory in 1975. The event is held every year on the last Sunday of June and this years event was on Sunday 25th June and, as usual, was held at Mineralwell Park, Stonehaven AB39 2AN.
The event was open to classics, future classics, Car Clubs, motorcycles, tractors and trucks and a great selection of cars and nice weather attracted a huge crowd. A number of club members attended, but rather than being on a dedicated club stand, most of the MGs were grouped together and many went on the short road run through the town.
Unfortunately the storm clouds started gathering by early afternoon and quite a few folk decided to leave the event early which was a shame, but it was nonetheless a very enjoyable day.
