Unfortunately, a number of other events in the area meant that attendance at our annual Drum show this year was down on last year and hence we didn’t manage to break the record attendance achieved in 2022. We also fell foul of a number of road and bridge closures associated with the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships which made a stop in Edinburgh on August 6 and meant that a number of entrants from the South were faced with a very lengthy detour…..and some didn’t make it!
As well as supporting NTS, our charity fund raising event also supports Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.
Despite the date clash, a very healthy 64 entries were present on the magnificent South Lawn at NTS Drum Castle. Some intermittent drizzle gave way to a sunny afternoon and the live music provided by our new resident band ‘Nae Cash’ kept everybody entertained (see video clip below - note this has a much reduced resolution due to file size limitations). The Deesidedly Tasty Company kept everyone fed with a selection of first-class hot food and Sally’s Coffee and (fabulous!) Cakes was the icing on the cake – no pun intended – and all of the entrants and visitors seemed to have a great day.
Our generous event sponsors Gillanders Motors MG Aberdeen (Ker-An House, Wellington Cir, Aberdeen AB12 3JG) brought along 2 current MGs for people to look at, as well as some MG branded merchandise. They also chose which car received the ‘Gillanders Car of the Day’ award – this went to Alan Palmer with his 1972 MGB.
The other award winners were:
Many thanks to all the Club members who helped to assemble / disassemble all the marquees and gazebos and attended either as a marshal, judge, entrant, or spectator for making the event such a success, and a special mention for John and Jill Chessor who once again did all the hard work prior to the event with all of the documentation and administration.
Traditionally, our annual Drum show is held on the first Sunday in August, but we are now wondering whether we should move it to earlier in the year to avoid the date clashes, possibly even to a Saturday rather than a Sunday? We would welcome any comments you may have about this to help us decide!
Finally, a big thank you to our good friend Paul Barlow for supplying many of the pictures shown below.
